Is anyone there?

I’m debating getting back to blogging but wanted to see if anyone is out there?  Would you be interested in hearing from me again?  I have so much to say and so little time, but it would be kind of fun to get back at this whole blogging thing.  Let me know what you think.  In the meantime, here is a recipe I wanted to pass along.  I’ve cut a lot out of my diet for Bubba (who I will introduce soon) so I’ve had to get creative in my cooking.

Sweet and Spicy Sweet Potatoes:  Brown sugar on sweet potatoes?  Yes please!  Check these out sometime, the are delish.

Heading to the Hospital

We’re on our way to the hospital!  Thank you in advance for saying a little prayer that everything goes smoothly for baby and I.

I received this poem a few days ago from a new mother.  I cried when I read it and wanted to share these sweet, sweet words with all of you.  I’m excited to meet our little one, but will miss the silent moments and movements that occurred between the baby and I.  But now it’s finally time to kiss those beautifully created cheeks!

These Last Few Hours

It is important to me that I spend a part of the next few hours here alone with you in the darkness.

You and I will never be this close again.
By morning you will be a tiny person all your own.
No longer the kicking, demanding bulge in my body that I have grown to love so well.

I pray God will safely guide you on your journey tonight,
and I ask Him for the strength to help you all I can.

Again you signal your impatience to be free.

Time to wake your Daddy.

Let’s go, Coach.

Love, Louise (aka Mom)

Due Date + 6

Sorry for letting ya’ll down yesterday and not uploading an official post.  I did manage to let you know there was no baby, but Coach and I decided to listen to the basketball game (that he missed) on the internet and than enjoyed a movie date on the couch.  All-in-all, a beautiful night.  We received about 5-6 inches of snow here, so being all bundled up on the couch and enjoy the warmth of our home together was just what this pregnant woman needed in her life!

Here is a picture of Coach scooping snow early yesterday.  We’re He’s just glad we don’t have sidewalks to to scoop as well!

IMG00223-20110120-1226 (1) Yes he is using a shovel and no, we didn’t buy one.  Our neighbors just so happened to have their shovel drying by their garage door, so Coach ‘borrowed’ it for awhile.  He said he tried to ring their doorbell to ask…  Don’t worry, we returned it!

Tragedy with Full Recovery

I have a confession.  Remember the crock-pot rice from a few weeks ago?  TOTAL FLOP!  DARNIT!  I took some out of the freezer for dinner last night, thawed it on the stove and found out it was WAY too mushy.  Maybe next time I will try letting the bag sit in the refrigerator over night to see if that gives me a different product, but based on internet discussion boards (yes, I Googled “mushy rice salvaging techniques!”)…I added too much water and/or stirred the rice too much while it was cooking in the CP.   SOOO…rather than dumping the entire bag in the trash, I decided to search out recipes with rice that could also work with mushy rice.  Here is what I made:

Brown Rice Patties

I really need to start taking pictures of the food so ya’ll can see the finished product.  These little rice patties were actually fairly pretty AND tasted surprisingly pleasant!  I will probably not put as many carrots in the recipe next time because I think they made the patties a bit too sweet, but overall this recipe is a keeper!  The  frying (I used canola oil instead of vegetable oil) gave these little patties the crunchiness they needed and turned them into a nice alternative to normal rice.  I served the patties with baked chicken with cheese and herbs, which all seemed to work well together.  I will make these cute cakes again and look forward to finding ways to tweak them with different spices, veggies and seasonings.  I was happy to see that Coach actually ate all three of his patties!  He usually isn’t too adventurous when it comes  new recipes – especially interesting looking ones like this! – but he enjoyed them, I think.  As always, I managed to chop and insert the onions when he was downstairs tootling around in the MC (man cave) or on the computer.  Another successful Onion Sneak….YES!

While we are talking food, let me just give a quick complaint about one food item…GRAPEFRUIT.  One of the local grocery stores had grapefruit on sale a few weeks ago, so I decided to venture into the world of eating grapefruit for our dinner fruit (I usually serve fruit with dinner…I’m my mother’s daughter!).  I typically don’t buy grapefruit but I thought, What the heck!  Turns out I love, LOVE grapefruit (dusted with a little sugar, of course)!  The only problem is TIME.  Seriously, did God create grapefruit to help people work on their patience levels?   I’m assuming Adam and Eve’s forbidden fruit was NOT a grapefruit because surely by the time they would have gotten the slices prepared to eat, they would have totally been over the temptation, moved on and avoided their later discussion with God.  HAHA.   The five grapefruit I purchased have been eaten, but you better believe each one of them caused stress-induced contractions.  Seriously.  In the future, I’ll stick to this method:

Doesn’t that look SO MUCH EASIER?  Surely brings my blood pressure down a few notches!

I do have another recipe that I want to share with ya’ll.  My friend Becky served up the BEST BREAD the other night when we went to dinner at their house.  She is so on top of things and already sent me the recipe.  Thanks Becky!  I haven’t made it yet, but it looks doable and I hope to try it on my own very soon.  So…if you are looking for another EASY bread recipe to add to your cooking collection, try this one:

Becky’s Bread

We’re Desperate

WARNING:  I apologize for the following picture, and now I will explain my excuses for the nastiness: 1) It was late. 2) I’m 9 months + pregnant.  3) Originally I wasn’t planning on posting this to the blog, but because I want you all to be involved in our journey into parenthood I decided to post it!

Check out what Coach picked up for me on the way home from work two nights ago.

Apparently he’s hoping we can bounce this baby right on out into the world!  He has required that I sit on the ball while we work in the evenings.  If anything, I’m acquiring better posture and getting a little ab exercise…as if extreme stretching wasn’t enough!  haha.

What?  Why am I wearing a scarf?  Because our house is cold.  See title.  I’m frugal, people!  Just ask my brother and sister-in-law who I’m pretty sure we froze out when they visited last month.  Oops.  I’m sure they have thawed out by now.  I promise to turn it up to 68+ when the baby is born…I pinky swear.

Who will baby look like more?  Coach or muah?

or Me?

Seriously, does that chair scream RECALL/SAFETY HAZARD or what?

Due Date +5 – COMING SOON!

Hey ya’ll.  I’m cooking dinner and have a potential recipe (we’ll see what Coach says first!)to share later.  Stay tuned!

Oh yeah, no baby.

Due Date + 4

I’ve been completely exhausted today.  After another night of no sleep, I’ve been nothing but lazy all day long…oops.  I did manage to get out to a few grocery stores this afternoon, but came back completely trashed (as in tired!).  Hopefully this means there is progression going on SOMEWHERE.

Plus it’s official, I’m waddling.

Sorry for the short post, but today wasn’t too eventful around here.  Coach did decide to stay back – which he said was a no-brainer, so I’ll be glad to have him around tonight and tomorrow should anything happen.

Otherwise, I don’t have anything else to post.  I did, however, want to be sure I at least listed some DOs.

Oh, but first!  Now that my gift has been delivered, I can show you the adorable wall hanging I ordered for my friend Dana’s little girl Adelaide.

So I’ve discussed the before, but it’s a website where artists and collectors can sell their products – whether it be holiday pot holders or custom signs like this:

Baby Celebration Print

ADORABLE, right?  Well, I ordered Addy one for her room and I am excited to see it up when I visit them soon.  It has all of her birth information listed on the picture and came matted (not framed) within a week of placing the order.  The artist who made the picture has some other REALLY cool things, so be sure to check out her store here in seeing more of her stuff.  She also had a really cute baby name platte, but I thought the other one would match Addy’s room better.  Here is the other one.

Baby Platte

I’m thinking our little munchkin might need one once we find out what he/she is!  Love!

Daily Obsessions:

  • This iron on wall hanging idea looks like it could turn out to be a nightmare or a total decorating success.  Either way it’s a cheap way to get some things on your walls! via
  • I’m sure some of you have figured this out by now, but I’m obsessed with  Well, today you can purchase a $20 gift card for $10.  DO IT!  I already know what stainless steel trashcan I am going to purchase for the baby’s room.  We decided to go against the typical Diaper Genie and reuse grocery trash bags.
  • Since we have an iPad now, I’m trying to get into the ebook trend.  If this is you too, well know that today you can download a FREE Betty Crocker cookbook right here.
  • OOO…this is great for all of you Netflix rookies!  You can try a out the service for one month to see if you like it here.  Do it and let me know what you think.  If you have a Wii, be sure to look into how to stream the movies through your Wii through your wireless internet.  It’s seriously the best!  At least just try it for a month.
  • Homemade soft pretzel bites?  Yes please!

Due Date +3

Brrr…it’s FREEZING here!  How is the weather where you are?  From what the weatherman says, it sounds as though the whole Midwest is going (or is getting) hit with a wintery mix over the next few days.  Great…right when the snow finally melted on our driveway, we get hit again!  I guess this means I should probably purchase a shovel after all.  The only silver lining here is that maybe the cold weather will make me shiver, which will make me have some contractions, which will lead to BABY!  Probably not, but one can always dream.

Coach and I went to the Dr. today to have our very first non-stress test.  What is a NST?  Well…because we have passed our due date, my doctor wants to evaluate the baby through non-stress tests to be sure the baby’s health is okay.  But wait, when does mom get an official stress test?  haha.  Never?  Oh.   Anyway…the test looks at the baby’s heart rate, the intensity of my contractions and the reaction to the baby during those contractions to be sure he/she is receiving enough oxygen.  Well, the baby passed!  Based on that information, my doctor feels comfortable letting me ‘ride this out!’ for awhile.  Coach and I both feel strongly in letting this baby come into this world when it is ready, so talk of induction is going to wait another week.  Our Dr. does not like babies to go much longer than 42 weeks because of changes that begin to happen in the mothers body after too long that can compromise the health of the baby.  So…we get to wait another week, but let hope things get a movin’ real, REAL soon!

This late-baby-business is not really working well with the collegiate basketball schedule!  Coach had home games this past Saturday and Monday, so we figured that if the baby came on time or even a day or two late that he would be in town.  Now, the team is due to leave for Wisconsin tomorrow and we’re debating about Coach’s plans to go or not.  I don’t think he’s planning on it, but after today’s results at the Dr. we are thinking this baby will be in utero FOREVER!  Again, another lesson from The Man Above to forewarn us…our entire life schedule is about to be unpredictable so GET USED TO IT!  I know Coach would be heartbroken if he missed any part of this labor, so I’m thinking he will stay back.  Plus, who else is going to push start and stop on our contraction timer app?

Tire Update

I know all ya’ll have been incredibly concerned about the tire on Coach’s car.  Well…I can happily update you that everything is fixed and driving like a brand new whip!  I enjoyed my morning hanging out with the guys ‘at the shop’ and learned a lot of new things about gossip in the neighborhood, had the entire STL road system explained to me and had a long conversation about the trash business with one of the other waiting customers – a trash man.  He tried convincing me to begin composting, but I told I’ve got to conquer recycling first!  We can work on the composting next year, maybe.  In our town, trash is handled by the city and recycling is just part of the fee.  So there really isn’t an excuse for me NOT to recycle, other than I haven’t figured out a really good system quite yet.  I’m working on that though.  I promise.  Composting is a whole different animal…don’t you have to put worms on compost…?  No thanks.  I’ll substitute that ‘green’ duty with reusable grocery bags, another green activity that I am trying to be better at  as well.

That Was Easy

I told Coach he could pick ANYTHING he wanted to have for dinner and this is what he chose.  I was thinking like breaded pork chops or something real fancy, but it looks like it’s going to be an easy night of cooking!  Gotta love a low maintenance hubby!

Daily Obsessions:

  • If one of your New Years Resolutions is to clean out your closets, then now is the perfect time to at least sort through your jeans.  Aeropostale is participating in a Jeans for Teens program and will be sure that the jeans you drop off at any of their locations get donated to teens in your area.  So great!  Never shopped at Aeropostale?  It’s a teen store, but I’m sure they will take jeans from ANYONE!  Here is a searchable resources listing their locations.
  • I’ve posted this before (it’s one of Coach’s favs), but ESPN Magazine is on sale for $2.99/year again through Tanga.  One blog recommended this would make a good Valentine’s gift!  I agree!  If anything, it keeps your Valentine quiet for about an hour twice a month!  Wait…did I just admit that?  In order to get the discount, be sure to enter ESPN at checkout.

Due Date + 2

No baby pictures.  Not yet.  Nope.  Nothing to show you except how big my belly has gotten in the past few weeks…

This picture was taken 12/29/10:DSC04337 And yes ladies, I’m rocking jeggings…don’t hate!

This picture was taken last night: 01/16/11

DSC04355Holy belly growth spurt!  I guess I didn’t realize how much my belly has grown over the past few weeks until I took one good look at these pictures.  Wowza!  I’ll be sure to pack both a newborn and 0-3 month outfit for the hospital, because we might have a little full-sized toddler on our hands!  haha.  The good news is that other than a few nights of no sleep, I still feel great!  At this point, I’m kind WANTING a little discomfort so I can begin preparing myself to get into ‘the zone’ of this upcoming delivery.

Am I ready?  People, I’m beyond ready.  So ready that I downloaded this iPad application this weekend:DSC04362Friends, the top of that screen reads:  CONTRACTION TIMER.  Not only does it track individual contractions – well, you have to start and stop the time – but it will track how many I am having an hour, show a graph of my progress, etc.  This will be an important tool as we are going to do our best to labor at home until we reach the recommended 5-1-1 rule  – when contractions are five minutes apart, lasting one minute for one hour.  That just sounds intense!  My only concern is that Coach will be timing my contractions on the iPad only to get side-tracked by the ongoing Scrabble game we currently have going between Coach’s brother and my sister-in-law!  I’ll have to be sure he’s staying the course and all business!

To be completely honest, I’m not necessarily ready for the birth/labor part of the next few days but I’m TOTALLY ready to meet this little one.  Every time I get a foot in the ribs or elbow across the belly, I wince, take a deep breath and then wonder what the little being will be….boy or girl, a lot of hair or none, looking more like Coach or me?  So yes, it’s time for me to get some answers to these questions.  Coach and I have already talked through what attributes we hope this baby will get from each of us, without being too choosy of course!  Seriously though, what baby wouldn’t want this humor?  Kidding!

Dinner with Friends

Last night Coach and I went to some friends for dinner and games.  You may remember our friends (Becky and Mitch) from birth class who had a baby Reese the first part of December…remember?  Okay, well we went to their house.   I was SO happy to get out of the house and enjoy some adult conversation while staring at precious little Reese!  Becky and Mitch had another couple over, so that adds a few more people to our friends list in STL.  Yes…movin on up!  Coach and I learned a new game as well last night called Wits and Wagers.  I’m always looking for a good game to add to our game closet, which now only consists of just Catch Phrase and Bananagrams, so I was happy to have found this new gem.  I consider myself a gamer and enjoy sitting down with friends and family to play a good game every now and then.  Shoot…I even enjoy putting puzzles together!  Maybe it’s the camper in me. Who knows!

Tire Drama

Yes, we are still having drama with Coach’s tire.  After a two-hour wait at Wal-Mart on Friday (the epitome of Hell-on-Earth ) I learned that we needed a new tire.  Revelation!  However, the tire man suggested that I find a used tire shop in the area to purchase the tire, otherwise he had to sell me a new one.  Now…some of you who know Coach and I personally realize this man could EASILY tell by the looks of Coach’s ride that we are driving until it’s ultimate death.  For those of you who don’t know us too well, the car is nearing the end of it’s life, so don’t consider Mr. Tireman a total genius.

So today I spent a good chunk of time calling around to local tire shops in search of a P195/65R15 tire (am I sounding like a gearhead or what?).  As a woman, I always feel like I should do ALL my research before calling an auto body shop.  Not only do I not want to sound like a complete blonde (because I am not!), but I also want to be sure I am paying for ONLY the things I need.  Granted online discussion boards are probably not ALWAYS completely a true indicator of what is going on with my car, but at least it gives me a little background/insight on the situation.

After not finding ONE PLACE who sold used tires, I came across website of a used tire distribution house in the area….like the place that sells used tires to the places I was calling.  So I called them and asked for a reference in the area.  Not surprisingly, no one in our county sells used tires (at least not through them).  But the man was very helpful and provided me the name and number of an auto shop who could help me out.  To make a long story longer, I have a date tomorrow morning at 8:00 am with the auto mechanic to purchase this $35 tire (which includes instillation and balancing!)!  He knows about the baby and said we could reschedule the appointment if I go into labor tonight.  I like this place already!  So thoughtful!

The Chair

I wanted to show ya’ll a picture of my sweet chair now that it’s officially been moved INTO the baby’s room.  Coach had quite an interesting experience moving this thing through the doorway himself (because it glides AND swivels!), but he was successful in his task!  Sometimes, when it comes to moving heavy objects, it’s so much easier to be on the ladies’ end and just direct traffic.  Anyway, here it is again looking adorable!

By the way, you will notice President Obama’s book called Of Thee I Sing: A Letter to my Daughters in the first picture by the lamp.  Before some of you grown and/or sigh, let me just tell you a little about this book – a gift from my parents when I completed my Masters degree.  In his book, President O talks about the many people (I call them heros!) who have laid a solid foundation for people like his daughters to be who they are today and whatever they want to be in the future.  The whole story is beautifully written and something I will read to my child very soon!  However, my favorite part of the book is the beginning where both of parents wrote the kindest notes to me, quickly making this book a gift I will treasure forever!  You go through your whole life hoping to make your parents proud.  I know both of my parents would have liked to have gotten their Masters degree, but sacrificed that dream to raise a family.  Therefore, to graduate with my Masters was a commitment I made to them (informally), which was to follow through on something they put aside to raise AL and I.

Anyway, if you are at a book store anytime soon…check it out and let me know what you think.  It’s a wonderful gift for any parent to their child, but especially if you have a daughter.

And in honor of one of the people discussed in the book:

Martin Luther King Jr.“Never, never be afraid to do what’s right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society’s punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way.”
Martin Luther King Jr.

So true!

Daily Obsessions:

  • One of the things I like about is that for each recipe, I can read how others have tweaked their version to make it better or what substitutions they made because they didn’t have one product or another.  I love substitutes!  Here is a substitute that I plan to bookmark for future use or for those mornings that I am REALLY craving a good old sloppy plate of biscuits and gravy.  via
  • Not that I’m completely mature, but I do feel as though the days of reading the latest hair tricks in Cosmopolitan Magazine are past me…sadly.  But if you’re still lovin’ those crazy stories, you can get it on Amazon right now for $5/year.
  • Do you have a birthday coming up?  One of the blogs I read has compiled a list of TONS of restaurants and stores who send you coupons, etc. to help celebrate your birthday.  Check out the list and subscribe to the restaurants/stores that interest you!  WARNING:  I am assuming your inbox is going to get bombarded with weekly emails in addition to your birthday coupon…so choose wisely!
  • How cute are these flower ‘bows’ – great for a wedding shower gift!

Weekend Reminder

Happy Weekend!  Just as a reminder or a message any any newcomer, I typically don’t post on the weekends.  I take the days to get some things done around the house and spend time with hubby.  Ya’ll should get out and enjoy the days too!!!

We’ll chat on Monday.

Friday Freakouts

There are two things in my life that I have a love/hate relationship with…computers and cars.  I guess my waistline could also be thrown into that mix as well…but let’s all try to be positive in 2011, okay?  haha.  Unfortunately today, both of the enemies mentioned above completely tested my patience level.  Coach’s car tire is still not holding air, so as soon as I finish this post I will be heading to Wal-Mart (another arch-nemesis) to purchase a new tire set.  Fun, fun!  It’s one thing to have to pick up something at Wal-Mart and it’s ANOTHER if you are stuck there while your car is getting fixed.

Then as I’m trying to finish my morning work, my internet decides to start and stop which caused me to have to restart my computer over, over and OVER.  What the?  It’s Friday and I’m supposed to be enjoying the day!  Come on computer!  This disaster let me to spend my afternoon downloading a newer security software to fight any and everything that was going on inside my PC.  Luckily I figured the problem out (I think) and we should be good going forward.  One of the downsides to working at home is the lack of a tech-department.  I mean…I’m it!  Let’s just hope this new anti-virus solves the issue for awhile.

So long as I’m complaining…let’s just keep-a-rollin!  There were two things about our house that still drive me completely insane…

  1. All of our lights are indirect – meaning you HAVE to have lamps to turn on a light.  There are NO overhead lights.  Crazy, huh?  I guess it’s great for any feng shui aesthetics in the room, but not for someone who just wants some light!  My father-in-law did manage to put a fan/light fixture in our bedroom after we moved in, so that is a plus but the rest of the rooms have lamps and old-school oscillating fans.  So if you plan to visit us in the future…get over that now!
  2. The second thing that drives me crazy is the lack of phone outlets.  Now…we don’t have phones, but we have wireless internet that needs a phone jack!  My only option was to have the extremely-flashy-neon-green-light-up wireless router put in our bedroom (by Coach’s side of the bed…which he loves!).  We have wireless throughout our house, but it’s much slower downstairs than it is upstairs.  Oh well, I’ll deal!

Don’t get me wrong…I LOVE our house, but it’s just been one of those days.  Until…

Surprise Delivery

You know how there are people in your life who are just the best and most extraordinary gift givers?  Well, I have a friend who is one of those people.  Never, ever, EVER in my lifetime will I be able to reciprocate her kind gestures and she knows that…believe me, I’ve told her to stop giving things to me for that reason alone!  Anyway, I received a phone call a few days ago saying there was going to be a special delivery for me on Friday morning.  So today I get all dressed up and wait patiently by the door to see what this delivery could be?  Well, I also waited because I wanted to apologize to the delivery men for not having the front stairs completely shoveled.  I was feeling a little guilty, I guess.  I mean really, how does a couple from Nebraska not even own a shovel?  I’ll put it on my Christmas list!  So the van pulls up, the men open the back doors and I yell, “You’ve got to be kidding me?”  One of the movers whips around and says, “Oh no, is it the wrong item?”  I laughed and said, “No!  I just didn’t know what was getting delivered and I’m SHOCKED this is what you are delivering to me.”  The guys looked relieved as I’m sure they were thinking I was some overbearing housewife who was just waiting to complain to them about my delivery.  ANYWAY, this is what was delivered to my doorstep today:DSC04342Yes my friends, that is an amazingly sweet rocker/glider for the baby’s room!  Here is a closer look at the Cow Jumped Over The Room print:

DSC04343Are you kidding me?  Stinking adorable.

Needless-to-say, I quickly called my friend and FREAKED OUT over the gift.  Not only was it so precious, but it was much more than I was anticipating.  I tried to say no but she insisted.  So…THANK YOU Dana for the  perfect addition to our nursery.  Love you.

Recipe Search

I am looking for some good freezer meals to make with ground beef/turkey.  Does anyone have any good recipes?  I need to search or for something tasty, but if you have a recommendation, send it to me…PLEASE!  I promise to make it, review it and share it with the blog family.  While we are talking about ground turkey…have you tried it?  It’s cheaper than ground beef and ultimately tastes the same (a little drier).  I was going to write about how much better turkey is for you, but after doing a little research I found there is a large debate over this topic!    Everything I Google’d came back the same answer…ground turkey is comparable to the leanest ground beef available at the store.  So never mind that end of the argument!  Gosh, this whole time I thought I was being so healthy only to have my blog tell me that I’ve been fooled!  Darn it.

That’s all I have today.  Not much going on around here.

Thank you to my friend Lyndsay who shared her resolutions!  Can’t wait to see how 2011 turns out for you, girl.  From the sounds of it, you rang in the New Year with a fresh start!

Movie Review

Did anyone see The King’s Speech?  I NEED to see it before the Oscars because it’s the talk these days.  If you’ve seen it, I’d LOVE to hear what you thought of the movie and if it’s worth all of the accolades it’s been getting in the press.

Daily Obsessions:

  • Old Navy is continuing their post-Christmas sales, in-store.  Check it out.
  • Are you planning to hit-up the malls this weekend?  If so, be sure to check here first for any in-store coupon.

Let’s hope I have some baby pictures to post on Monday!

Moby? Maybe!

Hello everyone.  No, there is no baby.  Coach stayed home from a 7-hour road trip today so we could go to the Dr. and check on our progress.  My official due date is Saturday, but he wanted to be safe and not feel like he needed to rush home from 7 hours away if something happened.  The Dr. said that there has been some progression, so we are thinking (and hoping!) that something happens over the weekend…maybe!  It’s been kind of a long day and I don’t really have much to write.  I will be posting updates about the baby from my phone whenever I can, but be patient!

If you’re tired of checking back on the site, try subscribing to my emails on the right-hand side of this blog.  If you subscribe, you will receive an email when I publish a new post.  It might be easier for you that way!  However, if you prefer to check back….that’s okay too!

I spoke to both my mom and mother-in-law today and both are ready to head this way once they get ‘the call’!  For those of you do don’t know, this is the first grandbaby for my parents and they are SUPER excited for the little one to arrive.  Don’t be mistaken, Coach’s parents are just as excited.  It’s going to be great to have both sets of grandparents here to welcome their grandchild.  My mom is planning to stay for a week after the baby is born and Coach’s mom is planning to come back and stay later in the month.  How wonderful it will be to have two experienced mothers helping me out. Coach’s season will be done mid-February, so I won’t have too long to be testing the waters during the day alone.  Once the season is over, I’m thinking Coach will want EVERY SINGLE moment he can manage with the baby.  He’ll still have to work every day, but his hours won’t be nearly as long as they are now.  I received one of these Moby Wraps for a baby shower gift.  According to online reviews, this wrap is the THING TO HAVE!  So my big joke with Coach is that men can wear them too…at least that is what the website shows.  Now our Moby isn’t plaid, but I think he could pull it off!

There is even a picture with a manly-man in camouflage with a fishing pole holding his baby in a Moby, so they have GOT to be suitable for men to wear around.  I wonder if we can get one with basketballs on them?  Or maybe his team’s logo?  haha.  I’ll have to look into that.  I personally think it’s kind of cute for guys to wear these around the house, but I have a feeling that Coach has a different impression of who should be wearing this attachment parenting mechanism.  I’m pretty excited to test it out myself!  Oh, and if you need one, you can buy one here.

I stopped by the library yesterday to drop of some books and one book on CD and also to check to see if they had another book telling you how to successfully raise a perfectly sleeping baby.  What?  You think I’m crazy for reading these books?  I probably am but in the meantime I am becoming a master in the art of sleeping babies! I’ve probably read over six books on how to get babies to be good sleepers and wouldn’t you know it, most of them are the same!  Yet, I fall into another trap of trying to convince myself that one strategy is better than the other…when in the end they are all have the same basic elements to their program. Except for the co-sleeping strategies.  There is NO WAY I want to encourage a family bed model in this house.  That’s why I took months to decorate the baby’s room, right?  Outside of the first few weeks in the bassinet, the baby will be sleeping in his/her room.  Although I’m sure Coach will have something to say about that….he’s the softy between the two of us for sure!

Yesterday Recap

Thank you to everyone who liked our NY Resolutions.  I think it became a pretty decent list of things to aim for in 2011.  However, I never heard any of your resolutions…?
